Like all industries, theatre and live events must stand up and take responsibility for the carbon and waste that is produced in the name of art, and search for creative solutions to the challenges of producing theatre within the principles of the circular economy. This chapter addresses the challenges faced by the theatre industry during the transition to a sustainable working model, and the industry initiatives that are being developed to support this systemic change. The responsibility and potential of embedding sustainable practice into production curriculums is also explored, alongside the value of empowering the future workforce.
