Sustainability Consultancy

Carbon Literacy Trainer accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project.

The performing arts is a powerful force for environmental stewardship and social responsibility. Let’s create a future where our art inspires and sustains both our communities and our planet.

While many organisations and artists have external eco-audits completed or require environmental action plans as part of their funding agreements, how are these policies being implemented?

As a sustainability consultant for theatre, I take the time to understand your specific circumstances, your ethos to making work, your staff engagement, and your audience interests.

Working with the Theatre Green Book, together we’ll work collaboratively across your venue, operations and artistic output to create a bespoke roadmap to a truly sustainable model of theatre.

Current clients include

Birmingham Repertory Theatre, commonly called Birmingham Rep or just The Rep, is a producing theatre based on Centenary Square in Birmingham, England.
Scottish Ballet is the national ballet company of Scotland and one of the five leading ballet companies of the United Kingdom, alongside the Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet and Northern Ballet.
Guildhall School of Music & Drama is a vibrant, international community of musicians, actors and production artists in the heart of the City of London.
The Unicorn is the UK's leading professional theatre dedicated to producing inspiring and invigorating work for young audiences.

By integrating external eco-audits and funding reporting requirements into this roadmap we can empower you to speak confidently about your organisation’s environmental targets and impacts to a wide audience of stakeholders.

While ‘sustainability’ has become a buzzword for any environmental action, true sustainability is a holistic approach that encompasses environmental, social, and financial dimensions.

Together we can empower performing arts organisations and individual artists to find the balance between their capacity to implement sustainable practices and the broader societal need to combat environmental degradation, creating artistic work which not only captivates audiences but also contributes to a greener, healthier planet.

Testimonials

Jennifer offered some really invaluable insight for our costume making process. Her knowledge on sustainability is extensive, covering all angles in designing and making for theatre from sourcing materials and recycling/upcycling to maintenance/care and varying methods for consciously designing the entire life cycle of costume. She is truly an expert in her field and a joy to work with, I highly recommend working with her if you can!

Scope 3 Emissions tracking

Scope 3 emissions are indirect emissions from things such as raw materials you bring in, retail items you sell, food and beverages you provide - basically anything and everything you bring in or send out from the venue.  It is also the movement of people in terms of your staff commuting or audiences travelling to performances.  Tracking scope 3 emissions can be very detailed but does assist in understanding the full carbon footprint of an organisation or production.
